ELKRIDGE, MD––(2012)––The appearance of two dangerous men from her past threaten a quick end to the career of Albany’s first female police detective.

Making the Grade is the story of Shannon Lynch––a career minded police officer who carries the extra burden of being the first female detective in the Albany, NY Police Department. When assigned to a major murder case, she not only has to try to find the killer but also put up with two partners who aren’t sure they can trust her.

Then two men show up from her past who may or may not be connected to the case.

Set in the year 2000, Making the Grade is Peter G. Pollak’s second self-published novel. His first, The Expendable Man (2011), is a political thriller set in Albany, Washington, D.C., and Turkmenistan.

Pollak lived in Albany for 40 years, arriving in 1966 to attend graduate school at the University at Albany, where he earned a master’s degree in American History and a Ph.D. in History and Education. He moved to Maryland in 2007 after careers in journalism, education, and business.

“My apologies to the Albany Police Department,” Pollak stated. “Making the Grade is a work of fiction and should not be taken as a criticism of the department.”

Pollak began focusing on writing fiction after retiring from readMedia, Inc. the company he founded (as Empire Information Services) in 1985.

He remains involved with readMedia, serving as the chairman of its board of directors. He also serves as managing partner, publisher, and editor of The Empire Page.

Both books are available for the IPad, Kindle, and Nook as well as in paperback formats.
